Introduction: Jennifer Lopez

Many film stars have attempted to launch a career in film; so many hit musicians have sought further success in the movies. Think Madonna, Bruce Willis, David Bowie, Whitney Houston, Keanu Reeves, Mariah Carey, the list goes on and on. Yet none of them have ever matched the monumental parallel achievements of Jennifer Lopez. Three multi-million-selling albums, and counting: several major blockbusters: Hollywood pay packets breaking the $12 million mark, AND a Golden Globe nomination. Then there's the clothing line, the cosmetics and fragrances. The woman is truly an all-singing, all-dancing phenomenon.

Jennifer Lopez was born in the Castle Hill area of New York's Bronx on the 24th of July, 1970, growing up on Blackrock Avenue. Her father, David, was a computer technician, eventually working for Guardian Insurance. Mother Guadalupe (nee Rodriguez) was a kindergarten teacher working up in Westchester County. The couple both hailed from Ponce (though David's maternal great-parents were European), the second largest city in Puerto Rico, but had met in America, where they were both brought as children.

Jennifer Lopez and her two sisters, Leslie (now a housewife and opera singer) and Lynda (a DJ, VJ and entertainment reporter), grew up in a small apartment which was "cold in the winter, hot in the summer". But "Hey", Jennifer Lopez later recalled "there was always rice and beans". And there was music. To keep the kids off the streets, Guadalupe would encourage them to put on little performances in the front room, singing and dancing. Salsa and merengue were favourites, with West Side Story viewed on many occasions - being about their people in their kind of neighbourhood. Jennifer claims to have seen the movie over 100 times. As a kid, she always admired Rita Moreno for her feistiness, her hot dancing and her cool boyfriend, yet ambition told her she should want to be Natalie Wood's Maria - the star.

Biography of Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez Biography

Jennifer Lopez was born in New York City, on July 24th, 1970. The daughter of David, a computer programmer, and Guadalupe, a kindergarten teacher, the young Jennifer Lopez always dreamed of becoming a performer.

With talents like singing and dancing, she started to perform in stage musicals, dancing in a European tour of "Golden Musicals of Broadway", a Japanese tour of "Synchronicity" and local productions of "Oklahoma" and "Jesus Christ Supertar."
Jennifer Lopez then landed a gig dancing as one of "The Fly Girls" on "In Living Color" and having Rosie Perez as a choreographer helped her land her next gig. It was on the CBS TV series "Second Chances." Although the series didn't last, it lead to her feature film debut "Mi Familia". Subsequently Jennifer Lopez gained ground in her next flick "The Money Train" with Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson.
Jennifer Lopez then won the role that would launch her into the public eye: playing Selena in the biopic tale of the same name (her dance and voice talent certainly helped). That same year, Ojani Noa (her boyfriend at the time) publicly proposed to Jennifer at the wrap party for "Selena". Their marriage lasted a year.

Although the show did not last very long, Jennifer Lopez was seen on television again, this time as "Melinda Lopez", in the made-for-TV movie, Second Chances. Her portrayal of the part was so impressive, that big league producer Aaron Spelling wanted to continue the role on another one of his series', Malibu Shores. After appearing in a mere few episodes, Jennifer Lopez refused to develop the deal further (the show was axed anyhow), with the hopes of taking her talents to the silver screen.

Before long she was one of People Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People and was fighting a giant killer snake in the surprise hit "Anaconda".
A few more major roles followed with the modern noir flicks "Blood and Wine" and "U-Turn", which secured her star status. In 1998, Jennifer Lopez proved that she could hold her own against a powerful leading man when she stared opposite George Clooney in "Out of Sight."

Despite Jennifer Lopez's ambition, talent, and hardwork, Lopez often receives more attention for two things. Her behind (which she has taken out a $300 million policy on), and her relationship with controversial rap impresario Sean "Puffy" Combs. Reports on Jennifer Lopez's love life increased after a night of clubbing with Combs. Lopez, Combs, a bodyguard, and a chauffeur were arrested after a high speed police chase in December of 1999. Shots had been fired in a Manhattan club the group had attended, and cops confiscated a loaded semiautomatic weapon from the car in which the foursome was traveling. After spending the night in jail, Jennifer Lopez's was free to go. Combs, however, still faces charges.

News, Gossip and Trivia Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez News. Gossip and Trivia

Jennifer Lopez's longest relationship was not with any of her husbands or fiances. The thrice-married Jennifer Lopez's first love was her most lasting to date.

"My first love was a guy in high school named David. We dated for, like, nine years -- from high school until I was about 24," recalls Jennifer Lopez, who married singer Marc Anthony this past June.

Jennifer Lopez first marriage to bartender Ojani Noa lasted 11 months. Jennifer Lopez subsequent marriage to backup dancer Chris Judd lasted 16 months. Jennifer Lopez dated rap mogul Sean (Puffy) Combs for almost 18 months and Ben Affleck for 26 months.

"I have many memories of David because nine years is like a lifetime. We grew up together because I was barely 16 when I met him."

Jennifer Lopez recalls they met through mutual friends.

"His best friend was dating my best friend. He saw me and fell in love with me right away. I had short hair and I was a little too heavy and wore these terrible school uniforms, but he fell in love with me anyway."

The boy proved persistent -- Jennifer Lopez admits she made it known she didn't find him appealing.

"He heard what I said about him and he was mad, but when we went back to school for the next year I saw him at the bus stop and thought he was kind of cute."

Jennifer Lopez told her friend -- who told his friend -- and "he liked me again so we wound up dating for almost 10 years."

Jennifer Lopez has kept in touch with her puppy love because "he still lives in the neighbourhood in the Bronx where we grew up, and so does my grandmother.

"I see him whenever I go there to visit her. When we run into each other we keep in touch for a while through phone calls. He's a friend and he probably knows me better than anyone else or at least more than a lot of people do."

Jennifer Lopez is starring as Richard Gere's dance instructor in the locally shot romantic comedy Shall We Dance?, which opened Friday.

Jennifer Lopez Salsa Dancing School

Oct 2004: Latina beauty JENNIFER LOPEZ is so determined to prove she's "still Jenny from the block" she's reportedly set up her own salsa dancing school in the Bronx where she grew up.

The sexy singer credits her dance lessons with launching her career and is looking forward to giving others the start she had by personally teaching the classes in the New York city district, reports Britain's DAILY STAR newspaper.

An insider says, "Jennifer Lopez loves dancing so when the idea came up, she thought it was fabulous.

And Jen is also looking forward to personally teaching salsa classes as often as her hectic schedule allows."

Jennifer Lopez sells Mansion

Jennifer Lopez has sold her Beverly Hills mansion for a reported £6.8million.

The stunning star, who wed third husband Marc Anthony in the grounds of the home in June, has now decided to get rid of the single-storey property, selling it to producer Sam Nazarian.

The home comes with four bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a projection room, a tennis court and a swimming pool.

A source said: "It sounds a lot of money but the house is gorgeous and that price is typical in Beverly Hills." Meanwhile, J.Lo recently vowed never to record a duet with husband Marc. The sexy singer said she won't sing with Marc Anthony, but is happy for him to produce her forthcoming album.

Jennifer Lopez said at the time: "I'm doing an English album and a Spanish one. It's my first Spanish album which I'm so excited about.

Marc Anthony's producing it for me but there are no duets on it." Jennifer Lopez's last collaboration with a lover, ex-fiancé Ben Affleck, ended in disaster with their box office flop, 'Gigli'.
